Dreakeanna Adair
Bonney Lake High School

Just call her “Kiki.” By no means does shortening her first name impact her lengthy
list of accomplishments at school. Check these out, and you’ll understand why she is the 2018 Female winner of the Tom Names Inspirational Award $5,000 scholarship.

She is a three-time state champion in Track & Field, winning this year’s discus at 141-10. In 2017 she hurled it 134-4 and in 2016 her mark was 133-7. In 2017 she was the state wrestling champion at 190 pounds. She was two-time captain of her team in Track & field and a two-time winner of the coveted Heart of the Panther Award at Bonney Lake. She also was the league’s Thrower of the Year and the 2017 All-League wrestler. With a 3.6 GPA average in AP class and advanced classes, she also has been involved with the league sportsmanship commission, her church youth program, the district youth council and mentoring of incoming freshmen at school. She is only the 2nd two-time state champ in school history.

So, let’s talk inspirational. Her coach calls her one of the most amazing young athletes that “I have had the privilege to work with in my 20 years of coaching.” This year she chose to run cross-country because she knew it would make her a better athlete. Her coach says: “It inspires so many to watch an athlete running cross country at 6’ and 215 pounds.” She is considered a positive force in school and always looks out for those who are struggling. When she sees people being “bullied” she is the first person to step in and give that person a hug. She even gives “pointers” to those who she is competing against.

Adversity does not stop her. In December she felt something pop in her knee in a wrestling match and the knee gave way. She had to give-up the sport and her try for a 2nd straight state title…but she never missed a practice to offer her support. During track season she battled in constant pain, her knee gave out more than once, and she would not let that stop her. She won her third straight state championship.

There is much more to Kiki’s story but her coach and athletic director agree about her inspirational impact to everyone at Bonney Lake. “She continues to excel at school, sports and in life. She is the most amazing young lady I have ever had the privilege to be around.”
